From Tokyo to Luang Prabang and Jiuzhaigou to Bangkok, Buddhism has had a profound affect on Asia.  Originating in India, Buddhism entered China via the Silk Road and later made its way to both Korea and Japan.  The southern school of Buddhism settled in places such as Laos and Thailand and threaded its way to southern China.  Each country or locale has melded Buddhism to reflect its own culture.

Buddha Smiles - In the heart of the bustling city of Bangkok stands a small temple that houses the largest gold Buddha in the world.  This 5.5 ton solid gold Buddha was forged during the Ayutthaya Period (1350-1767).
This image hails from those adjacent to the solid Gold Buddha in the Temple compound of Wat Tritmitr.  These Buddhist statues, although not of solid gold, remain impressive in their quiet splendor.
