From Tokyo to Luang Prabang and Jiuzhaigou to Bangkok, Buddhism has had a profound affect on Asia.  Originating in India, Buddhism entered China via the Silk Road and later made its way to both Korea and Japan.  The southern school of Buddhism settled in places such as Laos and Thailand and threaded its way to southern China.  Each country or locale has melded Buddhism to reflect its own culture.

PRAYER WHEEL – In Tibetan Buddhism, Prayer Wheels or Mani are used to spread spiritual blessings and well being.  The wheels contain rolls of thin paper imprinted with many copies of the Buddhist Prayer or mantra.  Therefore, as the wheel is spun the blessings or mantra are spread out with the wind.
This particular image hails from a remote region of China, Jiuzhaigou, which was witness to a very strong Tibetan influence.  Today, Jiuzhaigou is considered a national treasure with its pristine wilderness landscape.
