From Tokyo to Luang Prabang and Jiuzhaigou to Bangkok, Buddhism has had a profound affect on Asia. Originating in India, Buddhism entered China via the Silk Road and later made its way to both Korea and Japan. The southern school of Buddhism settled in places such as Laos and Thailand and threaded its way to southern China. Each country or locale has melded Buddhism to reflect its own culture.

Hand of Buddha - In the heart of the bustling city of Bangkok stands a small temple that houses the largest gold Buddha in the world. This 5.5 ton solid gold Buddha was forged during the Ayutthaya Period (1350-1767).
During the 17th century, as the Burmese invaded Thailand, the Monks of Choti-naram Temple covered the statue with stucco to hide it. The underlying gold was only rediscovered when moving the statue to Wat Tritmitr in 1955.
